Apple ready to bargain with its first U.S. store to unionize

Apple Inc accepts the outcome of a vote taken by Maryland employees to be the initial U.S. employees to join an union.

Apple is willing to negotiate with them, a source knowledgeable about the matter said to Reuters the news agency on Friday.

Apple is one of the important American businesses whose employees are now unionized and include employees at Starbucks Corp and Amazon Inc.

More than two thirds of employees working at the Apple store located in Towson, Maryland who organized as the Coalition of Organized Retail Employees have voted to join a union this week.

It is Apple's first the 270 U.S. outlets to do it.

The vote was successful following a vote that was scheduled for Georgia was canceled earlier in the year.

Apple will participate in negotiations within "good faith," the person with knowledge of the situation stated.

The Maryland employees decided to become members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
